Set up, run and look after your BR-1600-NDC. Everything here comes from Tennant's operator manual, rewritten in plain steps, with the parts you need linked to the list above.
1Put a pad on
- The machine ships fully assembled. Pads are sold separately: pick a 20 in (510 mm) high-speed burnishing pad, like the 20 in burnishing pad (TN4022882).
- Unplug the machine. Pull the handle release lever, raise the handle upright, then tilt the machine back so the handle rests on the floor.
- Turn the plastic centerlock ring (TN4024430) clockwise to take it off the pad driver (TN4045043). Center the pad, put the ring back on and turn it counterclockwise until it is tight.
- Tilt the machine back onto its wheels.

2Start burnishing
- Plug into a grounded outlet. Never use an extension cord.
- Lift the handle release lever and lower the handle. It does not lock down: it floats on purpose so the head can follow the floor.
- Press the safety lock button and roll the twist grips forward. Hold on: the machine jolts when it starts.
- Push forward or work in a W pattern. Keep moving; staying in one spot can damage the floor.

3Stop and put it away
- Roll the twist grips back. The safety lock sets itself. Keep holding the handle until the pad stops.
- To cross thresholds or floor grates, stop the machine and tilt it back on the transport wheels.
- Don't leave it standing on the pad. Store it tilted back on the rear wheels, indoors and dry.
- Coil the cord on the cord hook (TN4027697) and handle.

4No spray buffing on the BR-1600
- Tennant says the BR-1600-NDC should not be used for spray buffing: the faster pad draws more current and the circuit breaker may trip or the motor may overload.
- Spray buffing is only recommended on the BR-1200-NDC.
- Check the pad often. A loaded pad overworks the motor; flip it, clean it or replace it.

Can I spray buff with the Tennant BR-1600-NDC?
No. Tennant's operator manual says the BR-1600-NDC should not be used for spray buffing because the higher pad speed draws more current and can trip the breaker or overload the motor. Spray buffing is only recommended on the BR-1200-NDC.

Why does my BR-1600 keep tripping its breaker?
The usual causes are a loaded or wrong pad, spray buffing, or worn carbon brushes. Unplug it, wait at least 15 seconds, fix the cause, then press the breaker button. If it keeps tripping with a clean pad, call us for a carbon brush and breaker check.

How tight should the BR-1600 drive belt be?

What's the difference between the BR-1200-NDC and the BR-1600-NDC?
The BR-1200 runs the pad at 1,200 rpm and the BR-1600 at 1,600 rpm, using a different drive pulley and belt. The BR-1200 (9007328) is the Canadian CSA model and the one recommended for spray buffing. Everything else in the parts list is shared.

Can I use an extension cord?
No. Tennant says not to run the machine on an extension cord. It comes with a 75 ft (23 m) cord.

Why won't the handle lock in the down position?
It isn't supposed to. The handle floats when lowered so the burnish head can follow the floor.
