“The Cimex X-46 is a dedicated escalator and moving walkway cleaner for malls, airports, transit stations, hotels and office buildings that run escalators every day. It dry-scrubs and vacuums the treads in one operation with hands-free running, so the operator is not brushing and vacuuming each step by hand.
Two powered brushes turn at 290 rpm to loosen grit from the tread grooves, and two vacuum motors pull the debris into a disposable paper bag. Brush height adjusts automatically, and there are two brush choices: nylon for routine maintenance and Tynex for occasional deep cleaning. Brush changes are quick, and Truvox rates the machine at roughly 11,840 square feet of tread per hour.
The trade-offs are weight and wet soil. At 97 lb it rolls between escalators on its own wheels, but it takes two people to lift, and it must never be used at the top of an escalator. It is a dry machine, so greasy stains need a light hand-sprayed treatment first, without soaking the treads.”
