How to tell which you have
- Parts list edition: The 4/14 parts list is Advance's current one and covers every SC450 9087331020. The 08/2012 edition is the original list; pick it only to match an older printed copy.
- Handle bar: Count the switches on the handle bar grips: newer machines have two, older ones have one.
- Brush motor: Machines up to serial 3510134507872 have the older Leroy Somer GM462200 brush motor; it takes its own carbon brush kit.

Advance SC450 wiring diagram and electrical key

New to your Advance SC450? Start here
The first week with a new or new-to-you SC450, in plain steps from Advance's operator manual 9099602000. Teach these to every operator; they prevent most service calls. Bookmark this page for parts.
1Before the first use
- Check the batteries. If they came installed, switch on the brush and vacuum switches: a green light means ready, yellow or red means charge first.
- Installing your own batteries? Use two 12 V batteries and have a qualified tech install them. Set the WET or GEL/AGM switch on the control board and the charger to match. A wrong setting shortens battery life. How to set it
- Fit the brush or pad holder. With both switches off, tilt the handlebar to lift the deck, slide the brush under, lower the deck, switch the brush on and hold the handle button a few seconds until it locks onto the hub.
- Fit the squeegee. Tighten its two handwheels, connect the vacuum hose, then adjust the balance handwheel so the rear blade touches the floor along its full length and the front blade sits just off the floor.
- Fill the solution tank with water no hotter than 104 °F (40 °C) and a low-foam, non-flammable scrubber detergent at the label's dilution. Leave a few inches at the top.
2Every time you clean
- Lower the squeegee, then pick the solution setting: ECO gives about 90 minutes of scrubbing (0.10 gal/min); the variable setting gives up to 0.42 gal/min for about 40 minutes.
- Switch on the brush and vacuum, then hold the handle button to run the brush while you walk.
- Let go of the button whenever you stop. A brush spinning in one spot can mark the floor.
- Clean along walls with the machine's right side.
- Vacuum suddenly louder and leaving water? The recovery tank is full and the float has shut off suction. Empty it.
- All three lights flashing? The brush is overloaded. Switch both switches off and on, clear the brush, and use a softer brush or pad if it repeats.
- Charge as soon as the yellow or red light comes on. Running batteries flat shortens their life.
3End of every shift (about 5 minutes)
- Switch off, lift the squeegee and remove the brush or pad holder.
- Drain both tanks with their hoses and rinse them with clean water. Rinse the vacuum grid and float.
- Wipe the squeegee clean and check the blades. Flip the rear blade when the edge is worn.
- Charge: plug the onboard charger in; the machine won't run while charging. For wet batteries, remove the recovery tank, check the water level and leave the caps open, in a ventilated area. A green light on the charger means done.
- Store it clean and dry with the brush and squeegee lifted or removed. Parking it for more than 30 days? Do all of this, then unplug the battery connector.
4What to keep on the shelf

Habits that cause most SC450 service calls

Fuse ratings: in Advance's current (4/14) parts list the brush deck fuse (F1) is 40 A and the vacuum fuse (F2) is 30 A, matching the owner's and service manuals; the original 08/2012 parts list had them reversed. Replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating and style as the one you remove.

Batteries and charging
Charge after every shift or when the yellow light comes on. The machine will not run while the charger is plugged into the wall. The green light means the batteries are charged, yellow means charge soon, and a flashing red light means the brush and vacuum have been switched off to protect the batteries. The machine ships set for gel or AGM batteries; for wet batteries, set the WET/GEL switch on the main board and the selector on the onboard charger to WET. Charge wet batteries in a ventilated area with the recovery tank removed and the caps open.

What brush fits the Advance SC450?
The standard brush is the 20 in (530 mm) Prolene disc brush, Advance part ADL08837025. Optional brushes are Prolite ADL08837026, Union Mix ADL08837027, Magna Grit 46 ADL08837065 and Dyna Grit 80 ADL08837066. To run pads instead, use pad holder kit ADL08837018 with 21 in pads.
What squeegee blades fit the Advance SC450?
Advance's current (4/14) parts list gives blade kit AD9100000279 (AD9096860000 is also offered; confirm fit for your serial number): 29 in (740 mm) non-marking gum rubber, front and rear blades. A polyurethane blade kit, AD9096858000, is the optional alternative. The rear blade can be flipped to use a fresh edge before you replace it, and Advance recommends checking blades weekly.
Why is my Advance SC450 leaving water on the floor?
Check, in this order: the recovery tank is full and the float has shut off suction; the vacuum hose is off the squeegee or clogged; the vacuum grid is dirty; the tank cover is not seated or its gasket AD9099342000 is damaged; or the squeegee blades AD9100000279 (AD9096860000 is also offered; confirm fit for your serial number) are worn. Why do all three lights flash on my Advance SC450?
When all three battery lights flash at once, the control board has detected a brush motor overload and will stop the brush. Turn both panel switches off and on to reset, clear any string or debris from the brush hub, and use a less aggressive brush or pad for that floor. A single flashing red light means the batteries are too low and brush and vacuum are switched off until you recharge.
What are the tank sizes and run time of the Advance SC450?
The solution tank holds 10.5 US gallons (40 L) and the recovery tank 11.9 US gallons (45 L). Run time is about 2 hours on the standard batteries. The machine weighs 167 lb empty without batteries and up to 419 lb full.
What is the vacuum motor part number for the Advance SC450?
The vacuum motor is the 330 W 24 V kit, Advance AD9099922000 (M2 on the wiring diagram). A healthy motor draws 13 to 17 A. Its two carbon brushes are AD9095371000 and should be checked yearly.
What is the brush motor part number for the Advance SC450?
The brush motor is the 480 W 24 V reduction gearmotor, Advance AD9100000454 (replaces 9096546000), code M1. Its carbon brushes come as a kit with holders, AD9100000421. Machines up to serial 3510134507872 have the older Leroy Somer GM462200 motor, which takes kit AD9095380000.
What fuses does the Advance SC450 use?
There are three fuses behind the rear panel. In Advance's current (4/14) parts list, F1 for the brush deck is the 40 A strip fuse AD1453824000, F2 for the vacuum motor is the 30 A blade fuse AD1458513000, and F3 for the electronic board is the 5 A blade fuse AD1459852000. The original 08/2012 parts list had F1 and F2 the other way round, so match the rating printed on the fuse you remove.
Which battery charger does the Advance SC450 use?
US machines use the 24 V 13 A onboard charger AD9098296000. The other number in the manual, AD9098297000, is the European-plug version. The charger accepts 100 to 240 V AC.
How do I set the Advance SC450 for wet or AGM/gel batteries?
The machine leaves the factory set for gel batteries. For wet (flooded) batteries, move the WET/GEL switch on the electronic board behind the rear panel to WET, and set the selector behind the onboard charger's inspection window to match. Both settings must match the batteries installed, or the batteries will be under- or over-charged.
